Dear Sisters,
I always find it exciting to see another issue of The Mother's Companion in print. In addition to all the hard work, much prayer goes into each issue, and this one is no exception.
The lead article this issue introduces you to another home schooling, homesteading, stay-at-home mom. I know you will feel a "kindred spirit" with Lynette Dagley, and enjoy these few glimpses into her home. In the following article I discuss discipline and child training. Sometimes, when the children are irritating me and each other and my attitude is becoming one of "How in the world did I ever get myself into this?", I find the real problem is simply that I have neglected my responsibility to discipline. So this is an area in which we all need a refresher course from time to time. And I believe there are few areas as important to the success and happiness of the Christian family as this one.
I receive many letters showing how God is using The Mother's Companion in women's lives. One subscriber recently wrote; "I often feel very alone since my family is in Michigan and my husband's family is in Ohio so we don't have an extended family or support system. I can't begin to tell you how much I appreciate you and the knowledge you impart to us 'younger women' who are trying to follow the example in Titus 2. Without the older women in our churches providing the godly advice we need on submitting to our husbands and loving and training our children to serve their Lord, I believe we may lose the effectiveness of the Christian family on society. We are 'swimming upstream', and 'going against' the tide, but God has entrusted us with eternal souls in the dear children He has blessed us with. We must choose which has eternal value, a second paycheck or godly offspring!" It is encouraging and thrilling to know The Mother's Companion is providing vital support and encouragement to Christian women seeking to please the Lord in their homes.
As always, I trust you'll find this issue of The Mother's Companion one of blessing, growth, and encouragement in your high calling to "keep the home fires burning" for the Lord.
Blessings,
Helen E. Aardsma
