Dear Sisters,
Early summer is a special time of the year. It is great to be outside once again, enjoying the wonderful world God has created. It is also interesting watching the little ones pick worms and caterpillars, and generally getting themselves dirty. They obviously enjoy summer too!
As I write it is almost possible to see the garden plants grow. The combination of Midwest heat and frequent thunder storms has created near ideal conditions for growth for many of the vegetables. The weeds like it too, and they have us very busy.
This issue I am starting two new semi-regular features: "The One Room Schoolhouse", dedicated to homeschooling Miscellaneous, and "Gerald's Homestead Notes", dealing with homesteading. Many subscribers have expressed keen interest in these two areas. I hope you will find both columns encouraging and motivating.
I have written about a typical late spring day for our family in the "At our House" column this issue. This is something else I plan to make a semi-regular part of The Mother's Companion---I hope to cover all the different seasons in this way over the next several years. I hope you will find these helpful as well.
Blessings,
Helen E. Aardsma
