Dear Sisters,

Walking across the backyard a day or two ago I caught a heavenly fragrance. I looked about for the source---oh, yes, the apples trees in full bloom!

I think that when God made spring He was thinking especially of mothers, weary of long winter days.

This is rhubarb and asparagus time of year. Words can't describe that first taste of asparagus each spring! Nor can they do justice to fresh-baked rhubarb crisp, rhubarb muffins, and rhubarb pie.

New life is all around us. Our cow had her calf on April 5. And a stray female cat which has adopted our homestead has a new litter of kittens secreted away under the rafters of our straw-bale barn. Talk about excitement! Watching that calf bouncing around the pen reminds me of Caleb (2) and Timothy (4) let out in spring. (Don't miss the full calf story, next issue Lord willing!)

We are delighted to announce a very special new life! Jenn and Mark are expecting their first baby (my second grandchild) the first week in September. Now that is excitement!

When I wake up to a new day, expecially a lovely spring day, I am reminded of God's faithfulness to me. He brings about the change of seasons. He protects through the often stormy and not so restful nights. And He blesses again and again with new life.

The Lord's loving kindnesses indeed never cease, for His compassions never fail. They are new every morning; Great is Thy faithfulness. (Lamentations 3:22-23, NASB)

Blessings,

Helen E. Aardsma
